Building Our House

The first quarter of 2021

I am proud that we are continuing to stand and build during this storm. Even through difficulties and rainy days, we are determined to love God, love others, and to make disciples.

Here, you'll see a little recap of how we're doing just that. We'll talk about it in-depth at our quarterly VIP meeting.

THIRD QUARTER MILE MARKERS

4th of July

Volunteers Served Our Community

We took a different approach at this year's downtown parade. Instead of two snow cone tents in two separate locations, we scaled back to just one, and we did that for a much shorter period of time.
We're downtown to serve our community, and to sign kids up for VBS, which happens the following week. We've noticed a drop-off in response there since the pandemic, so we are re-thinking how we do this event.

Back[packs]-to-School

38 volunteers shopped, packed and delivered 90 backpacks to families in our community and provided a mini VBS on location.

Teacher Breakfast

We love to let our teachers and staff know how much they are appreciated. That's why our staff served 200 breakfasts to teachers and staff at Clear Creek Middle School and Gilmer High School. We also had the privilege to pray for them and the 2022-2023 school year.

Super Tailgate Sunday

We had a perfect day for celebrating 9 baptisms, worship, launching 4 new LifeGroups for a total of 15, and some great fellowship with our church and community. Fun was had by all.

Favored Women Conference

14 women attended our first women's conference together in Gatlinburg, TN! They had so much fun, they are already planning on doing this again.

Service Attendance Varies

We always expect a little slump in late spring into summer, as people tend to let their other schedule items interfere with building their house. In this critical year, it is a little surprising to see that trend still continues.

Standing For Gilmer & Beyond

Celebrate Recovery

Friday Nights have seen 7 decisions for Christ! Even though they have 25 leaders and 53 rotating volunteers plus 2 paid childcare workers each week, the spikes show just how much volunteers are still needed! Could this be your next ministry position? 298 attended Recovery Sunday with 444 live/recorded service video views!

lunches SERVED in July

We kicked off the 3rd quarter with the downtown 4th of July celebration! 8 Volunteers served snow cones, invited families to VBS, ran tech for the parade, managed floats, and helped with set-up and take down. VBS had 115 kids in attendance, served by 41 volunteers, and 8 decisions for Christ! 38 volunteers shopped, packed and delivered 90 backpacks to families in our community and provided a mini VBS on location. We served 200 breakfasts to teachers and staff at Clear Creek Middle School and Gilmer High School. Partnering with local churches, we hosted the multi-church youth conference C4. There were 225 in attendance with 6 decisions for Christ. It took 25 volunteers to pull it off, but it was well worth it! We wrapped up the quarter with the start of our new Grief Support Group, Tuesdays at 6:30pm, where 2 leaders walk through the Griefshare program with attendees.

We continue to find innovative ways to inspire growth and share the gospel with those around us both physically and digitally. Our For Gilmer strategy has adapted and grown in ways we never imagined! From serving meals to playground maintenance, we have been hard at work continually identifying and meeting the needs of our community.

Here are a few ways we are doing just that weekly:

Weekly Family Resource Packets Available On-Site Each Week

Praying for our Community, Leaders, and Individual Needs

Community Partnerships with the School System, Food Pantry, and local EMS

Jeff Parker

With God's most perfect timing, Jeff Parker came on board to be our new Worship Pastor in March.  While his first month wasn't what anyone expected, we are incredibly thankful for his leadership and willingness to dive right in and serve!

He and his family are really looking forward to connecting with everyone face to face soon!

Standing with deeper digital connections

We continue to look for new ways to engage with our online audience. We understand not everyone can meet in person, which is why our digital presence is so important to us, both on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. Take a look at the social connections we're making!

February was already a surprisingly low month, due to an unexpected snow day.  Giving tends to drop when attendance drops.

March is obviously low, since we aren't able to gather.

Fortunately, we have had online giving in place for quite some time, and have just added the option to "text to give." We hope this will continue to empower generosity for the sake of the Gospel.

Retaining Wall

Sometimes the unexpected happens, like a collapsed driveway. This was definitely not planned for, but it had to be repaired. The total costs put us over our general budget for the quarter by a whopping $33,650! Total cost for the project was $54,128.
